It's Not Mine

A medication advertisement came on the television this morning. It was on YouTube, so of course, we had to watch the first few seconds before we could skip. I’ll admit, I watched longer than required.

Honestly, I don’t even remember what the medicine was for, but my heart is still aching because of the what she said…

She said, MY ___________.

Whatever the disease was, she called it her own. It belonged to her.

She identified with it and she counted it as part of her identity.

Friends, brothers, sisters in Christ, if you belong to Jesus then He has taken every sickness that was created as a consequence of sin.

Isaiah 53:4-5 (AMPC)

Surely, He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

It says surely. Not maybe, not sometimes, not only for special people.

Definitions, here we come:

The word borne is a past participle of the word bear. I know, I know, that’s too much grammar, what does it mean? There are two things I want to highlight:

1)      This has already happened. Jesus has ALREADY borne our griefs, sicknesses, weaknesses and distresses; carried our sorrows and pains of punishment

2)      Bear defined: to accept or allow oneself to be subjected to especially without giving way.

Jesus accepted our sicknesses. Every evil thing that entered this earth as a result of sin, Jesus accepted and bore it without giving way. He carried it from the cross, to the grave and took it back to hell where it came from.

Colossians 2:13-15 (AMPC)

[God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].

There is no evil, no disease, no punishment for sin that the sacrificial death and victorious resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Messiah did not free us from.

1 John 3:8 (AMPC)

The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen and dissolve) the works the devil [has done].

UNDO, DESTROY, LOOSEN AND DISSOLVE.

He bore (accepted) my disease, weaknesses and distresses and He dissolved their right and power over me. He paid for me. He redeemed me. They do not have any claim on me anymore.

This does not mean that these are not real. Anxiety is real. Sickness is real. Grief is real. But they are no match for Jesus. I recognize that the enemy of my soul wants to keep me trapped and deceive me into believing that these are just things that I will have to learn to live with. Jesus never told anyone that.

I will not use my words to declare ownership over ANY consequence of sin.

It is not my anxiety.

It is not my sickness.

It is not  my weakness.

It is not  my grief.

It doesn’t belong to my children either.

Those things came from hell and that’s where they belong. I will not allow the enemy to deceive me any longer. I will renew my mind to the truth that Jesus has provided freedom from every bondage that Satan established when mankind bowed his knee in the Garden of Eden. I release my grip on conditions that I see with my physical eyes and I receive what Jesus Christ, my Savior and Redeemer, offers me-

Peace, wholeness, nothing missing, nothing broken.

He Who promised is Faithful.
